Nottingham Youth Jazz Orchestra

Myself and a number of friends from school and SNMS were the founder members of NYJO (not to be confused with the NYJO - National Youth Jazz Orchestra, of which I was later a member). I initially turned up with a 6-string electric guitar but on the first night one of the main NJO members handed me a jazz bass and I never looked back. This was MY instrument. It was like I'd been playing bass for years - I remember getting home that night and hassling Dad to buy me a bass plus amp etc. To start with I borrowed a bass from a school friend and along with my jazz collegues duly caught the number 53 bus from Clifton to Radford every Tuesday night for a session. It wasn't long before we were being invited along to join the main band on a Sunday night - which we all loved
